WestEd serves as the external evaluator for the CSforALL alliance, an organization of content providers, education associations, researchers, and supporters helping schools and districts provide all students with rigorous Kâ12 computer science (CS) education.
CSforALL launched in 2016 and became a funded Broadening Participation in Computing Alliance (BPC-A) in 2022. CSforALL launched with 188 members and grew to have close to 800 members in 2021, consisting of 664 institutions and 127 individual researchers.
The main goals of the alliance are the following:
- Raise Awareness of the need to address issues of underrepresentation resulting from root causes of historic marginalization, societal stereotypes, and inequitable education systems.
- Increase the Capacity of the CSforALL membership to meet the needs of communities by implementing standards-complete CS education pathways and provide opportunities for students to pursue interest-driven topics that go beyond core fundamentals.
- Use Data to landscape opportunities across the United States and hold the membership accountable for broadening participation in computing by increasing equitable access to and participation in CS education opportunities.
As evaluators, we serve as critical friends helping CSforALL study and improve the impact of their alliance.
